San Jose State University 2 Years, 2 Months ago
The San Jose State University School of Music & Dance proudly presents
the Wind Ensemble, Dr. Edward C. Harris, conductor, and the Symphonic
Band, Dr. Diana Hollinger, conductor, in their final concert of the
spring season on Friday, May 9 at 7:30 p.m. in the SJSU Concert Hall.

The Wind Ensemble’s program will open with Michael Daugherty’s Raise the
Roof, which will feature San Jose percussionist Galen Lemmon. This
virtuoso timpani solo was commissioned by the University of Michigan
Symphony Band and was premiered in 2007. The concert will continue with
the Profonation, the scherzo movement from Leonard Bernstein’s
“Jeremiah” Symphony and Edvard Grieg’s moving Funeral March written in
1866. The Wind Ensemble will conclude its portion of the concert with
Vaclav Nelhybel’s Trittico.

The Symphonic Band will present an all American concert which will open
with Christopher Tucker’s Fujita followed by the award winning
composition Shadow Ritual composed by Mark Markowski. The evening’s
program will conclude with the presentation of Eric Whitacre’s Godzilla
Eats Las Vegas. This unique theater piece includes the use of metal
trash cans full of glass bottles as an instrument and includes musical
quotes from Wayne Newton, Elvis Presley, Frank Sinatra and Liberace.

Feel free to duplicate this letter for a complimentary pass for yourself
or any of your students.

Parking in the Fourth Street and San Fernando Garage (directly across
the street from the Martin Luther King Library) is $2.00 after 6 p.m.
Parking in the Seventh Street and San Salvador Garage remains $8.

Sincerely,
Edward C. Harris, Director
