Letter from our Winter Conference Chair

Dear Colleagues:

I know this is a busy time of year for all of us but please take a moment to see a sampling of what is on tap for this year's Winter Conference, January 12-13, 2007 at San Jose State University.

• We are pleased to have Dr. John Roscigno, Signe Boyer and Cheryl Yee Glass as our Conference Orchestra, Choir and Band guest conductors.
• For classroom teachers, Kara Ireland D'Ambrosio will have an NBCT panel discussion and presentations from Diane Lister and Anne Laskey.
• Hal Peterson will have presentations by Sibelius and SoundTree as well as three teacher sessions.
• Diana Hollinger will present a Mariachi session, "Successful Vocal Warmups" and a session entitled, "Copyright and Public Domain."
• Aaron Lington will offer jazz improvisation sessions by Frank Sumares and John Worley and a reading session featuring the De Anza College 8 O'Clock Daddios.
• Victoria Schmidt will offer elementary and secondary vocal reading sessions and assist Diana Hollinger with the "Successful Vocal Warmups" presentation.
• For orchestra teachers, John Felder will present sessions with Larry Grainger, Tom Tatton and San Domenico School.
• In the band area, Tim Harris will offer sessions with Peter Boonshaft, Richard Saucedo and Timothy Salzman.
• Orrin Cross will provide separate adjudication sessions for instrumental (Friday) and vocal (Saturday) music educators.
• Finally, the popular Wine and Cheese (and more) Reception will be held Friday evening from 5:30-7pm (in a location to be announced at a later date). Glenn Roberts, of Best Music Company in Oakland, has graciously offered to provide the wine for this event once again.
