I hope the Winter Conference was a musically rewarding experience for all of you. I’d like to thank the hard-working CMEA Bay Section Conference Committee for making our two day in-service such a success. It is a pleasure to be associated with so many dedicated and caring professionals.
I’d like to convey special thanks to Dr. Edward C. Harris, Director of the School of Music and Dance, Dr. Diana Hollinger and the hard-working San José State University music students for being such gracious hosts once again. Special thanks to President-elect and Conference Chair, Michael Galisatus, for doing such a wonderful job! Congratulations to Andy Collinsworth, Sharon Vela and Michelle Winter for their stellar work with our conference band, choir and orchestra respectively. For those of you that missed this year’s conference, awards were presented to:
• Linda Covington, Moreland School District, Outstanding Classroom/General Educator
• Anthony Arnold, Joaquin Miller Middle School, Outstanding Choral Educator
• Julie Bounds, Santa Teresa High School, Outstanding Instrumental Music Educator
• Paul Perazzo, Harvest Park Middle School Outstanding Instrumental Music Educator
• John Maltester, Los Medanos College, Outstanding Bay Section Music Educator Award
This special recognition would not be possible without the sponsorship of Diane Lister, Pearson Scott Foresman/Silver Burdett, Scott Grady, JW Pepper and Dick Akright, A&G Music Products for the Classroom/General, Choral and Instrumental Music awards respectively. Finally, I’d like to thank Glenn and Sue Roberts of Best Music Company in Oakland for their warmth and generosity; the wines they provided for our reception were a very special treat.
With festival season upon us, our collective thanks go to Vivan McNulty, Rita Zigas-Brown, Orrin Cross, our Area Representatives, Assistant Area Representatives and all the site hosts for their hard work and dedication.
If you have any comments or suggestions for the betterment of Bay Section and the services we provide, please do not hesitate to call or write anytime.
Best wishes for a musically rewarding semester and a happy and healthy 2008!
