The cover of the current handbook. What will the new handbook look like?
The CMEA Bay Section Handbook is possibly the single most important tool that is utilized by our organization. It is the document that guides the President, Executive Committee, and the Full Board of Directors. It contains our Bay Section constitution and by-laws, and it is our guide to festival organization, festival procedures, and adjudication. As time passes, it is necessary to make relevant revisions and positive changes in the Handbook that enable our organization to function more smoothly and efficiently. Now your input is needed. The draft version of the 2006 Handbook is now posted online. Click here to view or download the 2006 draft.
Here is a summary of what has been updated: The Executive Committee has been reorganized, keeping it in line with contemporary corporate structure. An Executive Secretary has been added to assume many of the festival activities previously done by the Executive Treasurer and Secretary, leaving the latter to fill the responsibilities of a recording secretary. Special Representatives would be primarily responsible for Conference sessions and would be supported by Assistant Special Representatives who would also be responsible for the Conference performance groups. They would also assist in the normal organization of the sight-reading music used at our festivals. The Festival Coordinator would be divided into two areas (as it is currently operating), with a Large Group and a Solo and Ensemble Festival Coordinator. Finally, details regarding festival procedures and operations have been spelled out, giving more direction to all Bay Section members.
The new CMEA Bay Section Handbook will be official once the membership approves all the changes recommended by the Handbook Committee. Look for the election ballot in the May issue of Tempo. The Handbook Revision is an immense job. My sincere thanks to Steve Anthenien, John Burn, Orrin Cross, Cheryl Yee Glass, and Steven Hendee for serving on the Handbook Committee for the past year. Their combined experience and wisdom helped make this revision a reality. Special thanks goes to Allison Burn for her help in proofreading the completed draft copy. Thank you from all of us for the privilege of serving Bay Section. Peace to you all.
